Would you actually consider me Jewish?

By matrilineal descent, I am Jewish. Except… the last practicing Jew in my family was my great-great-grandmother. Does matrilineal descent really propagate that far down the line?

As an somewhat related question, my young children have a Jewish grandfather via my wife. He is very atheist though and not interested in his faith or heritage at all, but I’ve wanted to do something for my children so they can understand their ancestry more, and am not sure what my options are. I’d prefer something more cultural than religious as we’re not willing to convert, but I understand why that would put some people off.
