Why are the laws of teaching the Maaseh Bereshit and Maaseh Merkavah contained in the middle of Masechet Chagigah?

What connection, however loose, is there between the laws of Chaggim and the esoteric lore of cosmology and cosmogony? Koren suggests that the link is that because Chagigah is concerned with the laws of the “ascent” of pilgrims to the Temple, it is an appropriate place for discussing esoteric subjects as well (i.e. “ascent” to the Merkavah). Have others commented upon the possible reasons for the strange juxtaposition between pilgrimage laws and the laws of teaching hidden subjects? Ein Dorshin is such an oddly placed chapter of Gemara, I can’t help but wonder why it would be located in the place where it is.
