Whenever I see other Jews out wearing kippahs, I regret not wearing mine

I’ve been wanting to wear a kippah again, but since the war I stopped. Often times when I go to the doctor, I see older Jewish men their with kippahs or even just walking around the city I occasionally see guys my age with kippahs even if it’s not a Jewish neighborhood (just around NYC)

Today at my doctors appointment I saw two Jewish men sitting in the waiting room and felt a connection to them, but felt sad they would never even know because I have nothing signifying my Judaism. I feel immense regret for not wearing it every time I see other Jews out and about. They also give me some kind of security that it’s okay to wear it in public and I’m sure I would’ve felt great contributing to the amount of people in the room wearing a kippah. I’m fairly introverted and am not one to strike up a conversation, but will say Shabbat shalom if the day happens to follow on a Friday. Other than that, I’m really not even sure what I’d say to them, but for some reason I want them to know I’m also Jewish.

For background, I grew up with my catholic dad who divorced my Jewish disabled mom at a young age so I never really saw her or grew up with any Judaism. Now I feel like I have to compensate for all that time. I’m actually leaving for yeshiva in a month and am looking forward to how I’ll be different after that
