When can I call myself Jewish?

So I am Jewish by ancestry but my mother was adopted so I am only now really learning how to “live like a Jew”. When is it appropriate for me to call myself Jewish? I am still learning for sure but I am proud of my Jewish heritage. People don’t often ask but I am now making sure to ask off work when I need to and that is raising some questions. I don’t want to be dishonest or disrespectful, so I want to know what the Jewish community thinks… At least the Reddit Jews! 😆
