What’s Better?

Just gotboff the phone with my dad who was ranting at me. I started going to shul on shabbat with my son. I told him thinking he’d be happy to hear it. Of course he found something to be dissatisfied with… the shul I go to is made up of a lot of newly married men. No women’s section. A little chassidish shteibel.

Because of them being newly married, they’re mostly lazy and wake up late. Shacharit starts at 9. A minyan eventually comes around at 940ish.

He’s saying it would be better for me to daven by myself at home than here. I disagree. I believe that the fact remains that I’m making a difference in how I am and who I am. The fact that it takes so long to get a minyan just means to me that I get to daven psukei dezimrah with more focus till we’ve got a minyan and don’t feel constrained by time.

I don’t like the other shuls in my area. They’re either funeral homes in demeanor and davening or they’re hard-core chassidish, too much so for me and my son.

What should I do?
