What does “vehu yimshol boch” mean in the curse on Adam and Eve? Looking for meaning and deeper understanding.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the curse given to Adam and Chava in Bereishis, especially the phrase “vehu yimshol boch” — usually translated as “he shall rule over you.” I’m not really sure what that means exactly. Is it about who’s supposed to be in charge in a relationship? Or is it more about the nature of how men and women relate to each other on a deeper, maybe spiritual level? And then there’s the phrase “vel ishech tsheuksech” — how does that fit into the curse and what does it mean in context?

I’d really love to hear what the classic meforshim say about these verses, and also how modern Torah scholars and thinkers interpret them today. I’m working on connecting my original thoughts with what I’m learning now in 2025 Torah study (nitzchi?), and I feel like there’s a lot more complexity and depth than I first understood.

At the same time, I know this is a curse and not a relationship manual — but it’s really interesting to wonder how these ancient phrases might apply to today’s world, where relationships don’t always fit the old molds. For example, what happens in cases where women take the lead, or in same-sex relationships? Does vehu yimshol still apply literally? Or should we understand it more as a metaphor for broader struggles in human connection and power dynamics?
