What do you think are the intended/implied core Judeo-Christian Values, when discussesed in public media?

Having a disagreement with my [Jewish] fiancé about the meaning and implications of this term.

We are British but find that it frequently gets brought up in American political discussion that rea he’s our TV/Internet. In my opinion, it seems to just mean ‘not the Muslims’ but is rarely expounded upon as a concept.

I grew up going to Catholic School, and had quite a lot of education in that form of theology. From my perspective, beyond broad principles that are almost universal amongst any religion – such as the sanctity of human life – I’m genuinely unsure on what basis this is a thing and who, with knowledge of both faiths, actually embraces and defines it as a category.

I don’t pretend to be particularly knowledgeable but there seem to be clear contradictions to me:

  • Male C!rcumcision as a Mitzvah (Jewish) which is rejected in Pauline (Christian) Theogy later on

  • Emphasis on action (Judaism) Vs declaration of faith (Christianity)

  • Importance of a Minyan (Judaism) Vs the idea that numbers are not important in validating prayer (Christianity, Matthew 18:20)

I don’t pretend these are comprehensive and may miss the most key parts. But I do think the term Judeo-Christian is problematic and heavily misused… I need something to illustrate to my partner why this is the case
