Glaser’s Bakery, a 116-year-old family run bakery on New York City’s Upper East Side, has officially closed its doors as long adoring customers and fans lined up around the block. A traditional New York, German-inspired bakery, they are credited for being the birthplace of the black and white cookie.
Back in March Glaser’s announced their closing on Facebook, and yesterday, Sunday July 1, was their very last day.
Our team had the chance to visit Glaser’s one more time and grab one of their iconic black and whites, as well hear first-hand from their lifelong customers about how much they will be missed in the neighborhood. Indeed, the legacy of the bakery and the black and white will live on. Take a look:
