Question re: Bat Mitzvah attire

Okay — so we are attending a Bat Mitzvah this weekend and I need advice. This being the only daughter and the family having a HUGE circle of friends and family spanning the country, I’m fairly sure there will be no expense spared here. I have no idea what to expect, as this is not our world AT ALL. Morning services will be traditional but the party that evening will be a real and wonderful reflection of this family and we are excited to be there with them to celebrate. Her theme is “Show your true colors” and they requested cocktail attire. (As a side note, they are a liberal, very artsy, avant-garde, high brow family — for lack of better terms) so I am taking this to mean they would love folks to show up in fabulous rainbows and high fashion dress shirts and sharp suits. I always love seeing these friends out and about because they are always dressed in the most interesting clothes I have ever seen. I really have no idea what to put my family in, dress wise. None of us are really “clothes” people but I think this is a great reason for us to dress up. We have some basic and some options (nice navy cocktail dress for me – some sequins ) Pretty plain but I can add colorful accessories but I am SO CLUELESS as to what is appropriate in this situation. It’s not like I want to wear a Vegas showgirl feather headdress but I don’t want to be old lady boring. As for my guys, what in the world should I have them wear? My son (12) is super creative and odd and wants to get rainbow sequined Converse sneakers and a 70’s vintage floral collared shirts. What. In. The. World.

Help. How do I dress for a Bat Mitzvah Party while being “True Colors”, cocktail and appropriate?
