I have severe OCD, and one of the many themes is contamination (and scrupulosity but idk if I want to bring that up yet or ever). My therapist is going to be a Jewish man, I think, because he is one of the only ones that accepts our insurance and is qualified for what I need. However, on top of the “usual” stuff like my low self esteem, lack of interest in school, depression, panic attacks, repetetive thinking, etc., I would be talking about OCD things like how I am afraid to change my pads in public restrooms because of germs. This is probably the OCD making me ask this question, and I sincerely hope it doesn’t come off as rude (though it is probably ignorant), but would a male Jewish therapist not be ideal for this sort of thing? I’ve heard before that periods are genuinely seen as unclean in Judaism and that women on their periods have to stay away. Is this true, or more nuanced than I understand it? And would it be better to see someone else? Not that I think he would ever tell me anything harmful! I just.. I don’t know, I guess I might feel awkward.
