Question about last name

Hi Jewish friends!

I’m going to try to make this short and sweet. My father’s biological dad (my grandpa, whose name would normally be my maiden name) is a non Jewish Russian. Something happened when my dad was young. My biological grandfather is unknown to my family. Since I don’t know my “real” maiden name, I adopted my biological grandma’s (dad’s side) last name.

I was doing research about my grandma’s last name, and one site goes into detail about how the name is based in early Italy, in an area where only aristocrats lived. Does this mean anything?

Many other sites also link my last name to Italy.

Oh, and fyi, the rest of my family members have Russian last names. An Italian origin seems strange for Jews who have been living in Russia since the medieval times
