Hello! L’shana tova.
Tl;dr Would it be inappropriate to bring my non-Jewish boyfriend to a Kol Nidre service (but not the other YK services) after giving him a rundown on what it all means? He joined me at an Erev Shabbat service recently and has gone to Chanukah and Purim events before, so it wouldn’t be his first time in a synagogue.
More details: He’s in a conflicted place with his own feelings toward religion right now–he feels the pull of the spiritual, the meaningful, and the religious as being deeply important to him, but he feels ashamed to associate with the religion he was brought up in because so few of its institutions or followers seem to share the same meaning and values as he does.
I suggested he consider looking beyond what he was raised in, if he felt this way, and he said he was interested to learn more about Judaism. However, he isn’t extremely proactive when it comes to this area of his life, but if he is truly interested in Judaism in more than a supportive or merely curious way, I’d like to offer him whatever windows in that I can.
