In his book, Jordan Peterson claims that the ancient Jews consistently blamed their misfortunes on themselves having strayed from God’s word. Is this true?

Context: the chapter is on personal responsibility and the dangers of embracing nihilism. In this sense, Peterson uses the ancient Jews as a positive moral example.
