How do you deal with the atrocities and violence in the Torah?

Ex Christian, now atheist. Had a Jewish grandmother so I’ve started to look into Judaism.

I feel like it can be practiced even in a secular world, the holidays and beliefs really appeal to me. And for the most part, every Jew I have met is more lax than a Christian all around.

I mean curse words, sex, homosexuality, all of these things are just taboo and instantly frowned upon in Christian communities. I can actually get along with the Jewish community.

One thing that pushed me away from Christianity was actually reading my Bible. The violence condoned in the Old Testament almost matched that in the Quran. But after talking with Jews, I know that isn’t what you believe. How do you deal with gods wrath, execution laws, and flat out genocide in the Tanakh? Thanks.
