i’m part of the syrian jewish diaspora and feeling a lot of bittersweetness right now. so happy for the syrian people to be free of assad, so worried about what’s next, so hopeful that iyH i might be able to safely visit someday (while also acknowledging that most of where my family lived is gone, though the land persists), and sad and worried about syrians being bombed by israelis so soon after achieving freedom and the deeper discord any escalation in the conflict will inevitably sow between arabs and jews, especially mizrahim. i’d love to know i’m not alone in this complex space of grief, hope, and worry.
eta: idk what i expected other than people immediately turning this post into an argument about israel and zionism. please, i am so tired. can we for once please focus on humanity and working together instead of immediately sparking conflict. also, are literally any of you who responded (especially negatively) even syrian jews?? bismillah
