Home aide on Sabbath?

I have elderly Jewish relatives who have a variety of serious physical and cognitive issues. They had been somewhat observant, kept kosher and belonged to a conservative temple, but these activities essentially stopped years ago.

Their children (who are getting on in years themselves) arranged for someone to come to their house a few days a week to help with meals, cleaning and to make sure they are okay. This has been going on for a couple of months. The parents are now saying having this person in their home on the Sabbath is against their religion. The children are concerned with the parents’ health and safety and want the help to continue. It is apparently very difficult to find such help in the parents’ area.

Is there anything relevant in Jewish law?
