Hashem’s love for the unfortunate

I have kind of a weird question, mostly looking for sources.

I have a lot of catholic friends and end up reading a lot of catholic literature as a result. I was really struck recently by some quotes I read from both Simone Weil and Therese of Lisieux about how god loves the lowest of the earth and pays special attention to those who are suffering. Therese talks a bit about how she believed god loved her specifically due to her weakness because “was a sucker for little nothings”.

I feel like this is a subject that I don’t hear as much of Jewish spaces (compared to Catholicism, at least) and I was wondering if there is a Jewish counterpart to this line of though (either in agreement or opposition). It reminds of the idea the part from the end of the story of the Oven of Akhnai where it says Hashem is certain to answer supplicatory prayers made by those in pain.

Anyways if anyone can recommend any readings I would greatly appreciate it 🙂
