From innerspace, a book that was recommended by a friend on this subreddit. Is this true, that there is a Jewish mystical tradition that has not been written down and *this* is what is prohibited from teaching the masses — making the rest “fine”?

Or, has the oral mystical tradition — like the oral legal tradition — also been written down?
Would reading this book by R’ A Kaplan be a violation of the prohibition to delve into the מעשה מרכבה?
