If you didn’t realize right off I’m the same user who earlier made a post about if it was okay to contact my rabbi on paternity leave over a miscarriage. Well the email bounced back. In writing it, it awakened some emotions in me that was ignoring. Primarily of anger towards God and a sense that I’ve been abandoned. Someone told me I could post here so I’m gonna copy past the contents of the email below. If anyone has any words of wisdom, advice, or anything they can give me in this situation I deeply appreciate it.
Hello Rabbi [Name],
Sorry to disturb you on your paternity leave. Some really crazy stuff has happened to me over the past few weeks and multiple people have told me I should reach out to you and tell you about it. There was a lot of rough things to happen to me in mid July/early August but I’ll keep the list to the heavy hitters. In mid July [ex-fiance] left me without without any real explanation and a lot of confusing behavior. I had a surgery that went south and took a while to recover from; they couldn’t get me to wake up after and all of my stitches started falling out, etc. Then I found out I was expecting and then I lost it and went to the hospital on the second, only to later find out I had lost my health insurance on the first. And I couldn’t even tell [ex-fiance] about any of this because he blocked my phone number and his parents said if I try to contact him or them they’ll have me arrested. (They don’t have any actual grounds to do that since I’ve done nothing wrong but the message was clear). Then to top it all off I lost my job the next day.
It’s been really hard to deal with. I couldn’t bring myself to go to services for the first few weeks but I did manage to go last Friday. I confess that I’m really lost spiritually. I’m angry at God and I don’t understand why any of this would happen or why it would all happen inside of a month. I just feel really alone, like God has abandoned me. I don’t know what to do.
For some context my ex’s parents are deeply traditional Irish Catholics and antisemitic. Earlier in June he got an entire tirade from his mother about how he would go to hell for associating with all the Jews and has gotten multiple threats of disownment. He is in a fraught financial situation and very dependent on them at the moment and I think is a large factor in why he left, though not the only one.
Again I appreciate anything you all have to say and even just you reading this. It has been a rough several weeks and I’m struggling in my relationship with God.
