Confession: I don’t enjoy the "acapella men’s yiddish-ized pop-song groups" trend

Your Maccabeats, your Six13s, any of the dozen interchangeable Yeshiva Boy bands who are taking pop music and trying to barely-gracefully shoehorn Jewish content in while singing acapella.

I find them twee and bland and uninspired. The voices have no ruach or personality in them. The lyrics are obvious. And it’s trying to capture a trend that was stale three years ago.

Everyone’s entitled to enjoy it if they enjoy it, and if they’re happy doing it they should have fun. I’m not their mother. But forgive me if I don’t tune in to the Yom Kippur parody of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” entitled “Let’s Stop the Eatin'”
