Claim Jews enslaved and massacred Samaritans

Could someone please explain to me if there is validity to this claim I now hear being propagated that ancient Judeans / Hasmoneans slaughtered and enslaved Samaritans for not accepting the Babylonian captivity scripture, and that apparently they also destroyed their temple?

I always assumed Samaritans and Jews pretty much lived side by side from the time they were separated after the Assyrian conquest to even after the Persian emancipation? Where is this wild claim coming from that Jews and Samaritans were now enemies?
