I’m tired of my hair. It’s receding and thin. I hyper fixate on it which affects my mental health. I want to cut it really short. I don’t want a skin fade but ALMOST. Like 1/2 on the sides, maybe. And fade up to… Idk. Also really short. Basically a buzz cut fade. I might not like the results but it would be freeing. I think in Orthodox circles, this is not ok, right? Like less than a 2 on the sides with an elec razor is too short? What about Conservative responsa? Any differing rulings? Also, how often do you personally run across or know Jews with buzzcuts, skin fades, or other really short cuts? Where’s the line where you’re like “ok that is a very NOT Jewish looking cut.” I don’t want to draw attention at shul or look like a wannabe skinhead or something. In my community, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a skin fade, or a completely bald man. I’ve seen where they let the top bald and sides trimmed, and I’ve seen some crew cuts that look maybe just a little too short on the sides but maybe I have bad memory. Thoughts?
