Broke up because I’m not Jewish

I’m a non Jewish woman grew in an Eastern Asian country. Knew very little about Judaism before I moved to America (still don’t know much other than thing like holidays and some basic culture pieces). Met a great guy who grew up as an Orthodox Jew and became not religious (still lived an Orthodox life in front of his family), and had a romantic relationship for a couple of years. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, after dealing with some life events and depression, he decided he wanted to reconnect with his religion. Spent two weeks in a Yeshiva in Israel, got to intense learning schedules, talked to me less and less, and finally told me he can only see me as a friend. I full heartily support his choice of getting back to being religious and open to anything. But the way it was ended with me felt so unfair and I feel helpless. Just because I’m not the chosen one? (Commitment was never a topic for us and I was ok with it. )

I wanted to get some perspective from this subreddit and maybe it would help me cope. TIA
