Being blessed by a rabbi ?

Hi, I am a non observant jew (per the halakha) who was born of a jewish mother and a christian dad.

When I was a student the rabbi of my synagogue once blessed me and wish me endaevour and many good things in life (Brakha).

Is that common in the judaism or something even doable ..?

I thought it was something only christians priest did ? A rabbi is actually not a priest so how can he provide an individual person in the name of god at some point ?
