Because I had a brit milah done in Israel with a rabbi and everything (I have photos to prove it) even though I am not halakhically Jewish but instead “only” the grandson of a halakhic Jew (paternal Jewish grandfather). This was 32 years ago, FWIW. I don’t know if what was done to me was an exception to the general rule, or whether rabbis in Israel really do perform brit milah for those boys of Jewish descent who aren’t halakhically Jewish. If the former, then I suspect that my halakhically Jewish great-uncle (Jewish great-grandfather’s younger brother, who was still alive back then) simply falsely told the rabbi who was involved in this that I am, in fact, halakhically Jewish.
Anyway, any information on this?
