A Jewish lateral thinking puzzle

For those of you who aren’t familiar with lateral thinking puzzles: I present you with a strange-sounding situation, and you have to work out what’s going on, asking only yes-or-no questions.

A man wearing a plastic bracelet walks into shul, takes a siddur, and sits down to wait for davening to start. After a few moments, he opens his siddur and looks for something, but doesn’t find it. So he goes to the bookshelves and takes out a different siddur. Looks through it, doesn’t find it. Another, another, another. Finally he finds what he’s looking for – and goes back to his seat with the siddur he had taken originally.

What’s going on?
