Why is it that most Jewish Americans I know that are not Orthodox are very passionate about the LGBT Movement?

My father is a Secular Jew, and he is very infatuated with gay culture for some reason. And the Synagogue that I had a Conservative Bar Mitzvah at had so many people vocal about the LGBT movement.
