Truth is I don’t know much about the history of conservative Judaism. I know reform Judaism started at the beginning of the 19th century, and conservative Judaism followed after in order to counter reform.
However as an orthodox Jew I never understood the difference. Reform and conservative Jews both eat what’s traditionally considered non kosher, and will, say, drive a car on shabbos, and not follow traditional Halacha etc. So in which sense is conservative Judaism deemed conservative?
P.s. I don’t intend this in any negative way, just genuinely trying to understand the origin and development of conservative Judaism.
