Toronto?

Hi all,

I was born and raised in Amsterdam, but lately the harassment and hostility toward anyone who even slightly looks or identifies as Jewish feels like it’s getting out of control.

My wife isn’t Jewish, but we’re raising our daughter with Jewish culture and my parents speak Hebrew with her. I don’t really see a future here for her if things continue this way. My wife is from Toronto, so we’re thinking about what our options might be there mainly whether it’s safer and more sustainable to live openly as a Jewish family.

For anyone who’s lived both in Europe (especially the Netherlands) and Canada:

  • How do safety and day-to-day experiences compare?
  • Are Jewish communities in Toronto welcoming toward mixed or non-halachic kids?
  • Any thoughts on schools or neighborhoods for young families trying to stay connected to Jewish culture without being in a religious bubble?

Not looking to argue politics just trying to understand what life feels like on the ground for families like ours. Thanks in advance to anyone who’s been in both worlds and can share their perspective.
