Sukkah under tree

I was all excited after moving into a new house about using the existing pergola in the backyard for my sukkah. However, I realize today that there are tall tree branches directly on top. I’m pretty sure this means I can’t use it unless those branches and removed. Problem is those branches are very high and hard to get to. Feel dumb for not realizing this sooner. Any suggestions? Should I just abandon the idea of using the pergola? Thank you!
