Please help me understand creation. When exactly was Evil and violence created? Does the Torah say that life is an eternal struggle between Good and Evil?

Hello friends,

I am really wanting to understand the role violence, Evil and Good plays in Judaism. According to the religious texts, how did it start? Are there specific passages I should refer to? When did we first encounter violence, and is our lives a constant battle between Good and Evil? Does God say we should commit to defeating Evil?

Complex answers are welcomed, as well as any texts and passages I could read (scholarly, biblical, etc).
