Old Ashkenazi family pictures but confused on attire

I believe I posted pictures before here but had a question regarding their attire. My family was from the Russian Empire near Odessa which is now Ukraine. The other side I have(not pictured) looks very ashkenazi. These photos I am confused on the attire they are wearing, as Chat gpt(lol) is telling me this clothing is more common with mountain Jews. It also said that many wore different attire than their background. Anyone have any knowledge on it?
