Hey you guys and gals. My roommate next year is an observant Orthodox Jew. I can’t really tell you any more that about in regards to his beliefs, because that’s all that I understand of it.
I am an atheist.
We are pretty good friends already and I don’t think there should really be any issues with us on a personal level. Neither of us are that concerned with the beliefs of the other. However I am gain a growing concern about messing up his Shabbat or something. He’s told me he’s pretty self self-sufficient, and he’s lived with people who aren’t Jew before, so this won’t be an entirely new experience for him.
I have no problems talliny to him about his faith. I’m planning to have more conversations about the values and beliefs of Judaism (I think he like talking about). I’d like to not make him feel uncomfortable, though, under the avalanche of questions me and our other roommate have.
If y’all have any information about what you can and can’t do on Shabbat, other holidays I might want to keep an eye out for and more I’d be happy to hear it. Again, I’m gonna talk with him about what means to “be” Jewish more. This post is mostly so I don’t accidentally lock my Jewish friend out of the house, or force him to exist in a dark house for several hours. Adank!
