In his Jewish food video on Latkes, Sam Aronow made an interesting observation that the Maccabees are depicted very differently in the United States and Israel with American Jews showing them as American Revolutionary type insurgents while Israeli Jews show them more like Hoplite citizen-soldiers. This got me thinking, how do other Jewish communities depict the Maccabees? To French Jews style them after the French Revolution? How do Jews in Argentina and the United Kingdom depict them?
