Shalom alechem to everyone! So, I was pondering the other day after speaking to a friend of mine. A fellow Jew who is currently incarcerated. As he and I were speaking, he was lamenting the fact of how upset he is that he sees men all around him with somebody, anybody, and some with multiple girlfriends or a wife. He was mainly just venting, but I understand his struggle: he and I were once incarcerated together. I left prison a few years ago, but continue to stay in contact with him, and in fact, I wouldn’t have grown into the Jew I am today, davening, keeping kosher, actually celebrating shabbat, without him being in my life. To this day he still leads the Jewish service I was once a part of.
So here’s the question that came across my mind, ladies: would you ever date an incarcerated Jewish man? I’m not asking about him specifically (I know that isn’t a dating site) , but it got me thinking about my own life and how I felt the same way in there. Alone. No one to speak to every day. No one to care about out there and feel like you’re need for or to. I understand that loneliness all too well. I understand, also, that for a lot of women that committing to someone like that would depend on how long they have been or will be incarcerated, as well as what they are in prison for, and circumstances in the first place. That is understandable completely.
At the end of the day, though, would it be something that you would even consider?
