essential components of a child’s independent Jewish education?

Hi everyone. My partner and I are thinking about preschools and beyond for our toddler. We’re nondenominational—we most often attend a traditional egalitarian minyan housed at a conservative shul, but we’re also members of a Renewal congregation and I work at a Modern Orthodox school and consider myself to be part of that community.

For various reasons, the local Jewish preschools and day schools might not be the best fit for our family. But it’s really important to us that our child (and future children, G!d willing) have a rich and deep Jewish education—certainly more than I received in my once a week Reform Hebrew school.

So all of this has had me thinking: What would you consider to be essential components of your Jewish child’s education, beyond what your child would normally be exposed to as part of a somewhat observant house and regular shul attendance? Also, wondering if anyone has suggestions or best practices for attempting this, either within one family or in a small group of families.
