I do senior care and one of my clients is an older Jewish man. I NEVER talk religion with clients, because well, the obvious, and I’m not even sure what started this conversation but it happened unfortunately. He said, pretty randomly, that a woman’s prayers aren’t as “valid” or heard as well or answered as quickly/as much by God because women don’t pray as earnestly and honestly as men. That our prayers are typically less spiritual than those of a man.
I did a LOT of soul searching as a teen/college student and this included some time studying and practicing Judaism, along with other world religions. I was not by any means a devout Jew nor did I regularly attend temple or pray like I should have, but I developed a pretty good understanding of the holy texts and its teachings and a bit of the culture as well. And in my experience, no one ever said anything like what this guy did.
So I guess I’m asking, is there any sect of Judaism that actually subscribes to that school of thought? Or was he just talking out of his ass? I don’t plan to confront him or ask him anything about it but I’m just curious and Google didn’t help much.
