Correct me if I’m wrong, but the first line of Hebrew on that headstone is “Rabbi Shmuel son of Rabbi Tzvi.” Below that is “Died 21 Menachem Av 5727.” FWIW, I checked the Hebrew date, and Epstein indeed died on 21 Av 5727, but who’s Menachem and why is his name inserted in the middle of the date of death? And who is Rabbi Shmuel? (Epstein’s father wasn’t a rabbi, btw. I checked that too.)
