B’mitzvah after conversion

Hi! Writing as a non-Jewish mom. My kid converted (Reform) at nearly 16 and now is struggling with whether or not to have a b’mitzvah. I read this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Judaism/s/Hm4mrvzHrm which seems to say that it’s not needed. Being a teen is hard and time consuming- not everyone at the synagogue does a b’mitzvah, especially kids of similar age who turned 13 in COVID. Aside from “Ask your Rabbi,” which of course we will do, I would love to reflect upon any thoughts this community can share. Does having one or not affect birthright participation? Any other considerations? Thank you!!
