As research for a project, I want a better idea on how French people – both middle-class people and wealthier classes – viewed the German invasion of Poland, especially in those two days between Germany invading Poland and France officially declaring war. I’m especially interested in knowing if there was antisemitism involved (insofar as the Nazis were already very openly Jew hating then, and were now spreading), if maybe some people naively thought France would be spared from invasion, etc.
I know I could look it up, but I really want a Jewish POV on this, and my family wasn’t in Europe back then. If you have family anecdotes, essays, or books to recommend that touch on the subject, I’d be very grateful!
