Where to go? I’m not really into reform / labels.

Hey,

So my grandma was Jewish and I’ve been trying to reconnect after decades of ignoring religion.

After more than a year of going to reform synagogues, I’ve found it not to be for me after attending and having a heart to heart discussion with multiple reform rabbis. Don’t get me wrong, I love the people, but I’m not sure I’m a great fit for this particular denomination.

It seems the Torah is basically forgotten, an afterthought, and there’s no focus on living a life pleasing to HaShem, or even belief in fact. I’m getting the impression that some rabbis aren’t believers. People look at me weird, as in, “wtf?” when I talk about how following Shabbos is a blessing to me, and how things seem to go wrong when I don’t.

They also frequently invite Catholic priests to speak in the synagogue and it’s just completely weird and cringeworthy.

Now, I’m not looking to go too hardcore, but I do want to have a Torah-affirming life with likeminded people. I’ve looked into Karaite, and that seems to be a close match, but they have become for-profit as of late, and I don’t want to pay to “join a religion,”but I’m happy to donate or pay member dues, just not in this way.

Is there anything like that out there? Or is it wrong if I just go my own way and do my own thing according to the Tanach?
