What annoys you the most about Jewish fictional characters clearly not written by a Jewish writer? (Tropes, clichés or worse)

I do my absolute best. In addition to reading all sorts of religious texts and diligent google-based research, I reach out to friends within the, or rather, within some Jewish cultural spheres (I know there are plenty of them, varied and unique), as well as rabbis and other people who might offer insight.

It has been a resounding success so far, and I’ve been met with (almost) nothing but curiosity and politeness… One rabbi didn’t appreciate the queer theme of my narrative, which is fine. I’m not writing my book for him. Apart from that guy, I have felt warmly welcomed by every person I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with!

But I don’t know how to ask questions I don’t know I should be asking, you know? Unknown unknowns and all that. Luckily, there’s such a thing as big online forums where I can hopefully learn enough to avoid the most annoying tropes/mistakes/what have you.

So, my question to anyone who wants to answer is [title].

Can’t wait to read your comments… and probably cringe at the fact that, yep, I totally walked straight into some embarrassing trope without knowing.

Thank you for any insight❤️
