I am perhaps walking a dangerous path, but… I am a Christian seeking to learn more about Judaism. What started as an Advent devotional has actually led to questions and some doubts and the realization that some things don’t add up.
I’m not necessarily saying I want to jump ship, but, I DO want to learn more and understand Judaism better.
If this forum isn’t the place for that, can anyone recommend one that is?
In general, some immediate questions:
-
I read elsewhere that Judaism and Christians see salvation differently, that it’s not even actually a “big thing” for the Jewish. If that is the case, then why the anticipation of a Messiah? What is the future Messiah to you?
-
I know Christians believe only Christians will be “saved” (aka…enter Heaven and live with God in eternal paradise). What do you believe in that regard? I have read that Judaism teaches that Heaven (the new paradise etc) is for everyone, not just Israel? Or is that completely wrong?
-
Christians tell the story that the nation of Israel was oppressed politically and that the people were also stuck in patterns of sin that they were constantly having to offer blood sacrifices for, and so God sent his Son to be the ultimate bloody sacrifice to save Israel from their sins and oppression. What is YOUR version of that story?
-
Is there anything else in general you want to add?
I hope my questions are not offensive. Please know they come from a sincere heart wanting to understand.
