Should Simchat Torah change?

Someone shared with me their feeling that Simchat Torah this year should be in a minor key and basically to take out all of the fun and happy parts.

My response was that we need to consider how to acknowledge and be sensitive towards the reality around us but at the same time, holiday means holiday. The same way that on Rosh Hashanah, with the war around us and with 1/3 of my synagogue on the front lines, we still got to proclaim the kingship of God and sing “v’yitnu lecha keter melucha”. The same way that we drank on Purim and reclined on Pesach.
I grew up hearing stories of people dancing in the train yards of concentration camps because it was Simchat Torah and celebrating pesach seders in the shadow of the inquisition.

I don’t envision how I can do any less in today’s reality but I’d like to hear voices other than my own. I’d like to hear what discussions and thoughts people are having about this question and how people feel about it.
