I work for a security company as an armed school officer but we also have contracts with many synagogues in the area so I often work overtime on Saturday mornings, securing prayer services at Conservative and Reform synagogues. Would it be appropriate for me to greet the congregants by saying “Shabbat Shalom” as they arrive, even though I am not Jewish? While my primary purpose is, of course, the safety of the congregation I am also a representative for my company and I of course don’t want to be inappropriate.
