Putting the “Serve” Back in "Deserve"

As the Jewish community grapples with fears of our eroding security in post-10/7 America, nobody wants to consider the question of whether we have enjoyed that security up to this point by right or by debt. Did we secure the safest parking lot in the history of our diaspora simply by virtue of American ideals like equality and openness, or were there other forces interceding on our behalf that we have now forgotten or overlooked?
