Looking to discuss virtual Hebrew School options

For a variety of reasons, my wife and I are looking into virtual options for a Jewish education for our rising sixth grade (about to turn 12) daughter for next year. Instead of just relying on the Googles, I was wondering anyone had any specific experience they’d be willing to chime in with (or discuss over chat).

A couple of notes:

  1. It has to be (mostly) synchronous. We don’t think this kid will do well with purely asynchronous content (i.e. “watch this video then answer these questions”). She needs the structure of regular class meetings.

  2. We’re conservative. (Jewishly, not politically!) We’re not wedded to the program being officially associated with USCJ, but something on the spectrum of Reform+ to M.O.- will be a much better fit than something at either extreme.

  3. We’re interested in there being both a Hebrew language (reading and/or comprehension) and Judaic knowledge component. And on the Judaic knowledge, we’re more interested in the fundamentals of the religion rather than Judaism as a jumping off point for broader lessons (we had an issue with a prior school going way too hard on tikkun olam to the detriment of basically teaching anything else about Judaism).

  4. Bat Mitzvah prep is less important. We’re not simply looking for a “haftarah portion tutor” here. We’ll handle that through our synagogue.

Thanks in advance!
