As of September 2025, 157 out of 193 United Nations member states recognize the State of Palestine as a sovereign state. This recognition is significant, considering Palestine has been a non-member observer state of the UN General Assembly since November 2012.
Let’s look at who and why anyone would recognize the state of Palestine right now when clearly the structure of government is in disarray and infiltrated and controlled by Hamas and terrorist organization.
Some notable countries that recognize Palestine include:
- G20 Countries:
- Argentina: Recognizes Palestine as a state – Argentina has jews, is this a latin thing to root for the underdog?
- Australia: Recognizes Palestine as a state – How did a country founded on the labor and strife of convicts from the UK decide the historic failings of the state of Palestine deserved recognition and reaffirming this while under Hamas rule?
- Brazil: Recognizes Palestine as a state – Come on! I have huge numbers of Bazilian friends, the ruling class has this wrong.
- Canada: Recently recognized Palestine as a state, part of a diplomatic shift – Oh, you mean the country I formerly wanted to escape the US to? It’s the French man, all day long.
- China: Recognizes Palestine as a state, one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council – Of course, they sell their inferior arms tech to Hamas all day long, a valued customer.
- France: Recognizes Palestine as a state, part of a diplomatic shift – Remember Napoleon?
- India: Recognizes Palestine as a state – Wow, all I can say, wow. If any country in the world understands how government is corrupt, you would think India would understand there is no government controlling Palestine, it’s Hamas.
- Indonesia: Recognizes Palestine as a state – Really? Stay in your lane.
- Mexico: Recognizes Palestine as a state – Again, some cultural strangeness about the underdog and fighting for something. Maybe through in an authoritarian occupation (Hamas)
- Russia: Recognizes Palestine as a state, one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council – Russia! really? Oh yeah, they sell surplus inferior arms to Hamas too.
- Saudi Arabia: Recognizes Palestine as a state – They should really run from this, really, there’s real business to do, they are a complete disaster.
- South Africa: Recognizes Palestine as a state – Sure, again, why not.
- Turkey: Recognizes Palestine as a state
- United Kingdom: Recognizes Palestine as a state, part of a diplomatic shift
- Other notable countries:
- Algeria: Recognized Palestine on November 15, 1988 – Don’t care
- Bahrain: Recognized Palestine on November 15, 1988- Don’t care
- Indonesia: Recognized Palestine on November 15, 1988- Don’t care
- Iraq: Recognized Palestine on November 15, 1988 – Don’t care
- Ireland: Recently recognized Palestine as a state, part of a coordinated effort with Norway and Spain – WHAT? How soon we forget the IRA? Hamas owns Gaza, there is no government.
- Malaysia: Recognized Palestine on November 15, 1988 – Really?
- Norway: Recently recognized Palestine as a state, part of a coordinated effort with Ireland and Spain – Now this hurts. Norway? I thought more of this country and their understanding of the region, clearly I was wrong.
Countries that do not recognize Palestine include:
South Korea: Does not recognize Palestine as a state – Big respect, a culture built on performance and engineering. They can see that there is no state. They know from their neighbors to the north what hostile behavior looks like. They know that a fake government doesn’t work.
United States: Has consistently used its veto power to block Palestine’s full UN membership – We don’t sell arms to Hamas that has controlled Gaza and Palestinian “government”. We would have no reason to support a state that simply is not equipped to be called a state at this time.
Germany: Does not recognize Palestine as a state – Of course, another highly industrialized country that understands what it means to be a state.
Italy: Does not recognize Palestine as a state – Again, a country that understands you cannot be recognized in statehood when you are not a state.
Japan: Does not recognize Palestine as a state – Once again, a highly industrialized nation that understands a disaster when they see it, it’s not a state.
Key Points about Hamas’s Control:
- Governance: Hamas operates as an authoritarian Islamist statelet in the Gaza Strip, with its own governing structure and security forces.
- Leadership: The current Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip is Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who took office in May 2025 after a series of assassinations and leadership changes.
- Security: Hamas’s security situation is fragile, with ongoing conflicts with Israel and internal tensions with other Islamist factions.
- International Relations: Hamas is not recognized as the legitimate government of Palestine by many countries, including the United States and Israel, which support the Palestinian Authority led by Mahmoud Abbas.
