Kosher-Stylers, Kosher Meat Only?

I’ve been keeping kosher style [no treif, no mixing milk/meat, no nonkosher meat at all] from the start of this year after keeping 0 kosher for the entire duration of my life. I feel proud of myself. The one bit I’m struggling with is no non-kosher meat out of the house. Most people who are “conservadox” or similar around me eat dairy/fish out, and still consider themselves at least moderately observant. Their practice feels similar/in line with my own and my beliefs. But the no meat out part is bothering me a lot.

It feels like a really big change from having free reign at a restaurant to choosing between a few salads and a salmon or cod dish. I LOVE going out to eat and it is a big part of the culture where I live/with my friends.

The other thing that bugs me is that kosher meat is oftentimes more expensive AND lower quality than what is otherwise served (i.e at my in-laws, they only buy organic/grass-fed meat). So it feels like a restriction that is closer to the letter of the law but not the spirit, maybe?

I’m wondering if anyone experienced the same thing and what you decided to do. Do you eat non-kosher meat out? Are there convincing arguments that might help me value this mitzvah more? Curious to hear your thoughts and perspectives.

to add/ I only buy kosher meat at home
