Kids at Friday evening service question

So I’ve never been to a Jewish service (military has us moving a lot) a temple hasn’t been nearby since my interest in Judaism began. I now am near one and have been emailing with the rabbi about attending a service. He recommended coming for Sukkot and a community dinner after. I was excited but my husband has a last minute trip and I’ll have my 5/7 year old boys with me. I really want to go but would have loved to go without them the first time but he said it’s a family holiday and about hospitality. So my question for you all is what to expect so I can be a bit more prepared for my kids. I grew up Catholic and mass wasn’t for the faint of heart or my wiggle worm boys. But they have been asking about G-d and I would love them to hear words shared in the service but I’m not sure …. should we just come for the dinner after? Or should I for the first time in my life attend a service and have my young kids too 🫠
